Moving an Asset Category

Step-by-step guide to organise your Assets in the Asset Types library.

Over time, equipment categories may end up in the wrong section of your Asset Types Library — especially during setup or large imports. Keeping your gear grouped in the right place ensures your teams can find and manage assets easily across projects, depots, and job sites.

This guide explains how to move a category into the correct functional area.

✅ Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Review Current Categories

  • Using the main menu select Asset Types, this will display all the Asset Types set up in the system.
  • Search for the Asset Category you would like to move and ensure that it is not in the right place.

Step 3: Determine the Correct Functional Area

  • In the Hierarchy table click Edit, this will display a llist of all the Asset Types.
  • Navigate to move the Asset type by identify the area where the category should be housed.

Step 4: Move the Category

  • Select the correct category and click save
  • The system will give you a confirmation message that the Type has been updated.

Step 5: Verify the Move

  • Navigate to the main menu and choose Asset Types, then search for the category.
  • Confirm the category now appears under the correct group and is displaying as expected.

⚠️ Cautionary Notes

  • Only users with admin or edit permissions can move categories.
  • Double-check the destination area before making the change — misplacement can impact tracking and tasking accuracy.

💡 Tipsfor Efficiency

  • Review category placement after onboarding new sites or teams
  • Keep a shared naming + grouping standard across the organisation (e.g. a quick reference list by depot or project type)
  • Use broad but clear groupings — avoid duplicating similar categories across different areas unless needed for reporting

A clean, well-organised Types Library saves time, prevents duplication, and ensures teams always know where to find and log their gear.
