A Geofence is a virtual boundary drawn on the map around a location (e.g., a depot, station, or worksite). It allows the system to automatically record when assets enter or leave that area, as detected by GPS readers and Bluetooth tags.
How to Create a Geofence
- Open the Location Menu
- Navigate to + New Location.
- Select Advanced → + New Location.
- Name the Location
- Enter a clear location name and click Save.
- Draw the Geofence
- Once the location is saved, you’ll have the option to draw the Geofence on the map.
- You can either:
- Click directly on the map, or
- Search by street address or suburb.
- Zoom in or out until you see the correct area.
- Mark the Boundary
- Click around the area to drop points (shown in orange).
- To close the shape, return to your first point.
- Click Save to confirm the Geofence.
- A confirmation message will appear once it’s created.
Editing or Removing a Geofence
- If you make a mistake, you can simply click Remove.
- The system will confirm the location has been updated and the boundary will disappear.
- Simply repeat the steps above to redraw the Geofence.
Tip: When you navigate away and return to the map, saved Geofences are shown with a blue boundary.
How Geofences Work
- If a fixed reader is inside a Geofence, the fixed reader takes precedence (as it provides more specific location data).
- When a GPS Reader enters a Geofence, any Bluetooth tags it can see are recorded as being at that location.
- If an asset is left behind inside a Geofence, it will remain marked as “last seen” at that location even after the GPS Reader departs.
This allows you to easily view what registered assets are at a specific location, in real time or from the history trail.
