Your Functional Areas are the top level of your asset structure in G2G. This is the foundation and first level of your Asset Type Library. They help you group related categories and equipment types in a way that reflects how your operation runs — such as Site Services, Heavy Equipment, or Surveying & Layout.
Follow this guide to starting adding a new Functional Area, the first level of your Asset Types Library.
✅ Step-by-Step Instructions
If you have not created any Asset Types in your system you can skip straight to Step 2.
Step 1: Review Asset Type list
- Review the current list of Functional Areas to avoid creating duplicates.
- Confirm that your new area doesn’t already exist.
(e.g., ensure Lifting & Rigging
isn’t already listed under another name)

Step 2: Go to + “New Asset Type”
- Navigate to the + New Asset Type menu in the G2G platform.

Step 3: Enter the New Type Name
- In the input field, type:
Lifting & Rigging
(or any other relevant functional area name such as Access Equipment
, Temporary Works
, or Environmental Controls
)
- Click the Save button in that section.
- Click Finish Setup button to save the Name
Do not include brand names, serial numbers, or expiry dates in the Asset Type name.
All unique asset details are captured at the individual asset level using Custom Fields — such as:
- Brand / Model
- Serial Number
- Expiry or Inspection Due Dates
- Assigned Truck or Station
- Load Ratings, Sizes, or Specific Kit Variants

Step 5: Confirm the Addition
- Return to your list of Asset Types menu
- To see your new addition, enter the name in the search field and click enter to search.
- Ensure the new entry appears and is spelled correctly.

⚠️ Caution Before Adding
- Always double-check spelling and formatting before saving
- Avoid using abbreviations unless they’re standard across your organisation
- Ensure you're not duplicating an existing area under a slightly different name
💡 Tips for Efficiency
- Use clear, operational naming that field teams and admin staff understand
- Follow your organisation’s naming conventions (e.g., title case, no special characters)
- Document all changes to your Types Library for future audits or new staff onboarding
Adding Functional Areas thoughtfully keeps your system clean, your assets grouped logically, and your day-to-day management running smoothly.
