Creating a Location
Set up Locations to see where Assets are.
What is a Location?
A Location represents a physical place where Assets can be stored, used, or assigned. Locations can be anything from buildings and rooms to storage areas, workshops or fixed zones within your organisation.
Creating Locations allows you to:
- Find Assets in specific places
- Perform Stocktakes
- Perform Inventory Checks after you apply Manifests
- Filter and search Assets by where they are Located
How to Create a Location
In the G2G console, click the + icon in the top-right corner and select + New Location.
On the next page:
- Click Advanced
- Select + New Location
- Enter a name for the Location
- Click Create Location
Once saved, the Location will be available to assign tags to it, apply Manifests, and use across the system.
Creating Hierarchical Locations
Locations can be nested under other Locations to reflect how your site is physically organised. For example: Depot A > Shed 1 > Tool Cage, or Hospital > Building > Ward.
A hierarchy helps you:
- Group Locations to match your real-world site layout
- Find Assets by area, building, or level
- Keep searching and reporting tidy as your system grows
How to Create a Sub-Location
- Click the + icon in the top-right corner and select + New Location
- Use the Find and Filter search to choose the parent Location (e.g. Depot A). You'll see "Selecting [Location name]" appear at the bottom-right to confirm your selection
- Click Advanced → select + New Location
- The mini-breadcrumb above the name field will read Locations > [Parent] > New location... — this is your confirmation that the new Location will sit under the right parent
- Enter a name for the sub-Location → click Create Location
The new Location will appear underneath its parent, and its full path (e.g. Depot A > Shed 1) will be shown wherever it's displayed.
Moving a Location to a Different Parent
If you ever need to move a Location underneath a different parent:
- Click the + icon and select + New Location
- Use Find and Filter to select the Location you want to move
- Click Advanced → select Move
- Use the picker to navigate into the new parent Location
- Click Move Here to confirm
The Location, along with anything nested underneath it, will be moved together.
Things to Know
- Locations can represent any fixed place, not just buildings
- Locations can be nested — see Creating Hierarchical Locations above
- Assets can be Dispatched to Locations and moved as needed
- Locations can have Tags, Manifests, and Workflows applied to them
- Creating clear, consistent Location names makes searching and reporting easier
Creating Locations early helps ensure Assets are organised correctly and easy to manage as your system grows.
